Mist on the Water – Handpan Free Performance

September 18, 2019 by Maya Butterfield

Mist on the Waters is the name of an ensemble of handpan players and their instruments that have been playing at the Farmer’s Market for a couple of seasons now.     We are gathering for another musical meeting and would like to invite the community to enjoy our improvisational experience.  The handpan is a new instrument, invented in Switzerland in the year 2000, and is pushing the boundaries of resonant percussion.   Free, with donations accepted.   Friday, November 23, 7pm   Location: Main Hall

Sarah Cahill – The Future Is Female

September 18, 2019 by Maya Butterfield

The Dance Palace is very excited to announce that Sarah Cahill is returning to the Dance Palace to perform music by women from around the globe, ranging from the 17th century to the present day, including Teresa Carreño (Venezuela), Frangiz Ali-Zadeh (Azerbaijan), Chen Yi (China), Vítzslava Kaprálová (Czechoslovakia), and Florence Price (United States), with a post-concert discussion with the audience. The New York Times called Sarah “fiercely gifted,” and the San Diego Tribune wrote that “she is a vessel through which musical ideas can pass, a communicator whose technique is put at the service of empathy and understanding.” The doors open at 6:30.  The concert starts at 7 PM.

Wake The Dead

September 18, 2019 by Maya Butterfield

Wake The Dead: The World’s Only Celtic All-Star Grateful Dead Jam Band.

Since 2000, this hot Northern California septet has been blending Celtic traditional music and the songs of the Grateful Dead—at first impressing the Dead themselves enough for them to release the début CD on Grateful Dead/Arista Records. Now, ever more inventive and ever more energetic, WAKE THE DEAD spreads their reach to embrace the entire Summer of Love, keeping it alive for Deadheads and Celtoids alike as only they can.
