“What Will I Be When You Grow Up?” – Geoff Hoyle – A Fundraiser for the Dance Palace – IN PERSON & Livestream

November 18, 2021 by Chris Grace

December 11, 2021 @ 7:00 pm – 9:00 pm PST

All attendees must show proof of vaccination to be admitted; masks are required in the venue. PRESALE ONLY; no door tickets available.

In his latest piece of solo foolery, “What Will I Be When You Grow Up?” comic actor and grandfather Geoff Hoyle ponders his “legacy” and vast “worldly wisdom.” And how you pass on the best bits…

Since he couldn’t perform it live, he’s made it into a film… 29 characters, costumes, special effects…!

The Dance Palace hosts a benefit screening to a limited live audience on Saturday, Dec. 11th, 7 pm, in the Main Hall, with simultaneous online streaming. The screening is followed by an in person Q & A with Geoff Hoyle and director David Ford, moderated by the Dance Palace’s Art Committee Chair Carlos Porrata.

Ticket Options:

  • –Live Audience: $20 per person, and your ticket includes a special intermission dessert & beverages. Proof of vaccination and mask required. Contact tracing sign-in sheets will be utilized at this event.
  • –Streaming: $15 per device. Streaming viewers get to visit their own fridge at intermission, with no line for the bathroom…

80 minutes, with a short intermission; recommended for ages 15 and up.

PRESALE ONLY; NO TICKETS AVAILABLE AT THE DOOR.

Sales for streaming option end 30 minutes before the start of the performance.

All proceeds benefit the Dance Palace

Artist Reception with Carol Whitman

October 19, 2020 by Chris Grace

November 14, 2020 @ 5:00 pm – 6:00 pm

Carol Whitman moved to West Marin from London in 1971.  She’s lived there since then, with temporary moves to Baltimore and Berkeley. She raised her son Max here. She held many jobs, from school bus driver to medical assistant. After surviving a health crisis she returned to school and got a bachelor’s degree in Nursing, and a Master’s in Public Health.  She worked in health care for many years.

She always wanted to be an artist, but never felt like she was one.  She could master a craft like knitting, and loved the colors involved.  She made jewelry, but there was never that creative spark of an idea that wouldn’t be denied.

Three years ago she converted the entryway in her house to a propagating room, growing flowers from seed.  This led to bouquets that played with design, shape and color.  Then came the pandemic and political turmoil. On June 2, 2020 she came home from a walk carrying some iris seed pods and three small puffball mushrooms.  She arranged them on a table in the garden. Every day since then she’s made a mandala on this table.  After a week of doing this, it was clear that she’d found her genre, at the age of 69.

The morning practice of gathering the plants, making, photographing, editing and sharing the mandala is the silver lining to this era in her life. It provides a calm, quiet focus,  to ground her mind, body and spirit in the present, in the creative process.

This event will feature a conversation with the artist discussing several pieces, followed by a Q&A session. The online gallery will be available for viewing on the Dance Palace website for the month of November by visiting the Dance Palace Art Gallery after November 1.
