This includes those on death row, where there is a disproportionate number of African Americans and people of color. The work is even more powerful today as California moves to abolish the death penalty. A community discussion with the artists and experts in the field follows. This thought-provoking thirty minute contemporary dance performance is presented as part Bolinas Museum’s exhibition, FOCUS: Joanna Haigood + Wayne Campbell. Bolinas resident Joanna Haigood is a nationally awarded dancer and aerial choreographer known for her her deeply considered narratives and site specific works. Her subjects range from poetic interpretations of paintings by Marc Chagall to explorations of slavery and the history of the underground railroad. These free performances are supported by a grant from the West Marin Fund and their efforts to empower women and girls.
