Recurring event see all

February 7 @ 4:00 pm 5:00 pm PST

EveryBODY Moves is a NEW class for 10-14 year olds. Sessions will include focus on ballet, yoga/strength building, Contemporary Release technique and physical theater.  Students are encouraged to sign up for both sessions to try out new movement forms.

Session 1: $96 – Ballet & Yoga/Strength Building with Bridget Bartholome

January 17 – March 20 (No class February 21; makeup day on March 20)

The Ballet classes will explore the basics of this fundamental, historic, performing art. Students will gain flexibility, knowledge and confidence each week. No experience necessary, and any previous experience will be built upon. It’s no wonder professional athletes of all sorts condition their muscles and spatial awareness with ballet. This class explore choreography and most importantly feel the joy of jumping, turning, and moving with grace.

In the Yoga/Strength Building class, students will dance and move with ease doing simple and fun exercises that will be a challenge and make you feel better. Bodies are capable of great things, but they need tending.  It’s easy to spend way too much time looking at screens and sitting at desks. This class will give overthinking minds a break, while getting stronger, more flexible and happier!

Session 2: $96 – Contemporary Release & Physical Theater/body-stories with Lisa Townsend

April 3 – May 29 (No class April 10)

The Contemporary Release class is designed for students to discover new pathways of movement emphasizing dynamic physicality, choreography, musicality and creative expression. Students will develop their physical strength, flexibility, coordination, and ability to learn dance choreography with ease. Simple movement phrases, focusing on warming, stretching & strengthening will grow into longer dance phrases moving boldly across the space.  Paced to a varied musical playlist, students will also explore dance improvisation, building a strong foundation and body awareness for any kind of dance.

Physical Theater/body-stories is the practice of telling stories through physical expression. Students will learn improvisational theater games/exercises and techniques for voice, movement and imagination while working together and building an ensemble. Using various source material (i.e. written text, photographs, spoken word) and exploring imagery, gesture, & abstraction with time, shape, space and kinesthetic response, students will begin to create characters and tell stories through physical expression; possibly creating a role(s) for a short piece to share in solos, pairs or groups.

Lisa Townsend teaches dance, theater & body/mind practices. Named “choreographer to watch” in balletanz magazine, her work has been presented in NYC, L.A. & S.F. An adjunct director & choreographer with A.C.T.’s MFA program (2012-21) & the Artistic Director for Bolinas Children’s After School Theater (2012-22), Lisa loves teaching and sharing the experience of movement expression.
