Ann Gessert studied design at the University of California at Berkeley with a focus on ceramics and metal smithing. Over time, she changed her focus on the hard surfaces of metal and clay to the softer textures of cloth and fibers. Her pieces often incorporate silk, rayon and other materials to layer colors and produce interesting textures through the creation of non-traditional quilts and fabric art. Many of the fabrics are repurposed clothing, chosen for their sheen, color, and/or pattern.
