An Evening with Storyteller Martin Shaw, presented by Black Mountain Circle

May 3, 2019 @ 7:00 pm - 9:00 pm PDT

Martin Shaw brings myths and stories to rouse beauty in troubled times, and introduces his new book, The Night Wages. In troubled times it can be easy to fall into either despair or numbness. Traditionally it was the role of the storyteller to rouse awareness of beauty and vocation in such moments, and attend to the grace. Martin brings myths that remind us of love, grief and the mysteries—provoking our humanity. He will also talk about his new book, The Night Wages, a rumination on the vitality of ancient stories in modern times.   Martin Shaw is a mythologist, author and wilderness rites-of-passage guide. A prominent teacher of myth, he devised and led the Oral Tradition and Living Myth courses at Stanford University and is a fellow of Schumacher College in the United Kingdom. Author of the award winning Mythteller trilogy, his new books for 2019 include, The Night Wages, Courting the Dawn: Poems of Lorca (with Stephan Harding) and Life Cycle, a long essay and conversation with Ai Wei Wei on myth and migration.  Cost $25    Location:  Main Hall
