An Evening with Dr. Sharon Blackie, presented by Black Mountain Circle

September 13, 2019 @ 7:00 pm - 9:00 pm PDT

Transforming Stories: The Fine Art of Shapeshifting   How can we navigate the liminal zone which lies between the world of the human and the other-than-human? How do we become what we are not, without losing who we are? The myths and folk tales of old Europe are populated by men and women who are able to shapeshift into animal form, or perform other fantastical self-transformations. Irish psychologist and mythologist Dr. Sharon Blackie discusses the meaning of these magical metamorphoses, and explores the ways in which these stories connect us directly into the Dreaming of this beautiful animate earth. Sharon will also read from her just-published book of new and reimagined fairy tales: Foxfire, Wolfskin, and Other Tales of Shapeshifting Women.   ABOUT SHARON BLACKIE: Sharon is an award-winning writer whose work sits at the interface of psychology, mythology and ecology. Her highly acclaimed books, articles, online courses and residential retreats are focused on the development of the mythic imagination, and on the relevance of our native myths, fairy tales and folk traditions to the personal, social and environmental problems we face today. Sharon is the author of the word-of-mouth bestseller If Women Rose Rooted: The Journey to Authenticity and Belonging, which offers up a new Heroine’s Journey for this age of social and ecological crisis. Her latest nonfiction book, The Enchanted Life, focuses on the mythic imagination as a bridge to a vivid sense of belongingness to a rich and many-layered world. She is also the author of The Long Delirious Burning Blue, and of Foxfire, Wolfskin, and Other Tales of Shapeshifting Women (2019).
