Dear Dance Palace Community,
As we move into April, three weeks of sheltering gone and an indefinite number looming, with the Dance Palace shuttered, we are reaching out to you in solidarity and with huge affection. We miss the busy, raucous daily life of this place: toddlers, seniors, yoga, Pilates and Zumba practitioners, musicians and dancers and actors and artists, after-school kids, brides and grooms, local movers and shakers, and the stream of other non-profit friends. We miss you all. You are truly the Dance Palace-in-motion!
Like you, we are communicating with each other daily from our homes by Zoom, email, and phone, planning for a busy future, and looking for ways we can serve right now. We are committed to being the distribution point for homemade masks from local sewers; we are offering support for DP instructors who may wish to offer classes on line; we are undertaking efforts to offer Kids Musical Theater and other programs online. And we’re all ears if any one of you has more ideas of ways we can serve.
The other thing we’re doing (somewhat frantically, we admit) is counting and calculating. The Dance Palace is maintained by a crazy-quilt of grants, space rental fees, event fees and donations. It’s a fragile balance, familiar to the non-profit world. We hope and pray that Covid-19 will be dispatched before funds run out. We are hugely grateful for the recent donations we have received from a number of you. And we welcome donations of any size from those of you who can help us at this moment.
Thank you in advance. It’s a critical time, and we know you have many calls on your resources.
Be well, mind the rules, let us all care for one another.
