Sally Fairfax

Sally K Fairfax has been a serious photographer since she received her first camera, a Baby Brownie, for her 4th birthday. But she always wanted to work with her hands. She turned in the 1970s to stained glass and has evolved with the field as kiln forming and glass casting equipment and expectations evolved.

Her work since retiring has expanded her professional interest in environmental issues and management into a more explicitly stated concern with mismanagement. It uses the fragility of glass to explore fragile habitats — the polar regions and the Tomales Bay area.  She has studied with Alicia Lomné, Gina Zetts, Johanna Manousis, Erica Tada, and Jeramy Skidmore and is a proud Gallery Route One Box Show artist.

Fairfax is the Henry J. Vaux Distinguished Professor of Forest Policy Emerita at UC Berkeley and the recently retired Co-coordinator (with Connie Morse) of the Inverness Disaster Council.  She lives in Inverness.
