A Point Reyes Artist’s Life
Nancy’s art career began with a master’s degree in printmaking at San Francisco State University. She worked in etching, aquatint, and mezzotint for many years before beginning to work on large format pastel paintings in 2001.
Inspired by the mercurial weather of west marin, Nancy’s art is indicative of the wild nature of the sea and land, with the ever-changing, always-inspiring, interplay of light and fog, and the unpredictable winds and weather.
Capturing the movement and the transparency of our Pt. Reyes ocean has been a fascination. Appreciating all aspects of West Marin life, including the animals and landscapes of the ranches, as well as the wild lands in the national seashore have been important subjects, all of it is part of the fabric of life in our community.
Moving to West Marin in 1975, she built her own house and raised her daughter, Ana, here. In 1996, she built a small rental cabin built from a Douglas fir tree that broke in half in a storm. Nancy has also worked for many years as a landscape designer/contractor.
Nancy’s series of wave pastels is now on Wave #83, and she has recently branched out into working in oil paint. Her work also includes some work in ceramics.
