Point Reyes Books will present renowned poets Kay Ryan and Jane Hirshfield in an afternoon conversation and reading on Sunday, September 15, at 3 P.M. at the Dance Palace Community Center in Point Reyes Station. The gathering is a benefit for the West Marin Review, an award-winning literary and arts journal which features art and poetry by local school children alongside the work of accomplished writers and artists from near and far. A casual Sunday Supper with the poets follows at a private residence.

Kay Ryan, of Fairfax, is known for her compact compositions, sly wit, and subtle wisdom. She is a MacArthur fellow, and the winner of the 2011 Pulitzer Prize for poetry. She was U.S. Poet Laureate from 2008 to 2010. For 30 years she also taught remedial English at the College of Marin.

Jane Hirshfield’s subjects range from the metaphysical and passionate to the political, ecological, and scientific to subtle unfoldings of daily life and experience. She has taught at UC Berkeley, Duke University, Bennington College, and elsewhere, and is a favorite at writers’ conferences and literary festivals in this country and abroad.

Published by Point Reyes Books and other community members, the West Marin Review will release its fifth edition later this year.

Tickets for the afternoon gathering are $20. Tickets for the Sunday Supper are $75 and include admission to the gathering. Sunday Supper seating is limited and advance tickets are required. They are available below.
