Fibershed hosts an annual Wool Symposium for a sold out crowd each year in mid-November. The event functions to cross pollinate urban and rural communities by bringing together designers, farmers, ecologists, scientists and the general public to hear about topics that range from place-based breeding practices to designer & farmer clothing collaborations. The event includes a marketplace and free demonstrations to the public on sheep shearing, spinning, weaving and natural dyeing.  For more information go to fibershed.org or email fibershed@gmail.com.

Reconstruction and Recovery:  The Post-Civil War South
Old Dixie was shocked and humiliated by her unexpected defeat at the hands of the detested Yankees.  Incredibly, "The Chivalry" had been beaten by soulless, materialistic Northerners.  How would the loyal sons and daughters of the Confederacy react to the Unthinkable?  Carry on the struggle, or join the modern world and create a commercial, urban culture where cotton and sugar cane once grew?  This class will trace the moral and political struggle post-war Southerners faced in the wake of utter ruin.
